Application Requirements

Applicants should hold a terminal degree (MD, DO, MD/PhD) from an accredited medical school and be in good standing in the medical community. By the time of fellowship enrollment, the applicant must have completed an accredited internship and internal medicine residency.

Unfortunately, due to the requirements of our NIH training grant, applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents (hold a green card).

Application Procedure

Four positions are available in the Infectious Disease fellowship each year on a competitive basis.

Please note: The deadline to submit application materials for the Johns Hopkins ID Fellowship Program is July 19, 2024 at 9:00am EST.

You must apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). The academic year begins in July. Applicants can begin applying to programs on July 3, 2024 at 9:00am EST.

The application requires:

• Three letters of recommendation (one of which should be from your residency program director/department of medicine chairperson)
• A fourth letter of recommendation is optional
• Curriculum vitae
• Personal statement
• Official medical school transcripts
• MSPE
• Official test transcripts for all applicable examinations (USMLE, LMCC, COMLEX, NBOME, FMGEMS, FLEX or NBME)
• Valid Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certificate (if you graduated from a foreign medical school)

All candidates must register through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) Specialties Matching Service (SMS). Fellowship appointments are made through the Infectious Disease Subspecialty Match Program.

Application disposition: Once our selection committee makes its decisions regarding interview offers, applicants will be notified that they will either be a) offered an interview, b) offered a spot on our interview wait list, or c) not offered an interview. This communication will be sent through ERAS.

Post-interview day communication: Please note that program leadership do not expect or routinely engage in post-interview day communication. We appreciate, however, that your interview day affords the opportunity to meet only a fraction of our faculty, and that the faculty member(s) with whom you would like to speak may not be available on your interview day. If, after your interview day, speaking to other members would be helpful to you in gauging your fit with our program, please let us know and we will strive to make those arrangements.
