Faculty Mentors Needed for CFAR Summer Scholars Program

Overview
Generation Tomorrow: Summer Health Disparity Scholars and the Baltimore HIV/AIDS Scholars are teaming up to offer mentored independent project opportunities to undergraduate students interested in HIV and/or hepatitis C virus (HCV) health disparities and their intersection with substance use (addiction and overdose), violence, mental health, and the social determinants of health. In addition to projects, students will receive training in HIV/HCV education, testing, and counseling, and participate in a weekly lecture series and conduct community outreach in Baltimore.
HBCU & MSI Partnerships
This program is part of the CFAR-wide Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Pipeline Initiative (CDEIPI), and it encourages partnerships with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and other Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs). This year’s Summer Scholars Program is hosting 15 undergraduate students and 1 graduate student hailing from HBCUs Spelman College, Morgan State University, Howard University, Xavier University of Louisiana, Winston-Salem State University, and Prairie View A&M University, and non-HBCU institutions including Johns Hopkins University, Wellesley College, Tufts University, and CUNY Hunter College. Three of this year’s participants are distinguished Vivian Thomas Scholars, led by Dr. Damani Piggott, Associate Vice Provost for Graduate Diversity and Partnerships at Johns Hopkins.
